I spend some beautiful afternoons by the river with this little harp a friend’s gift.
It is a bardic harp, or a small Celtic harp. This laptop harp has 21 strings.
It is a very pretty, decorated harp. Especially in the summer when I go to Tuscany, this little harp becomes an inseparable companion for the days outdoors.
Could it be good that the only harp you have is a bardic harp?
Many people, especially those who have the desire to learn to play the harp, ask themselves this question.
The answer I would give is: It depends!
It depends on what we want to do with the harp.
Yiu can have are many different approaches to this beautiful instrument. There are people more oriented to classical music, with a conservatory training on the pedal harp, this for example is the case of my teacher (I’ll tell you about her soon❤️) who is a professional. In this case, a bardic harp is a whim.
There are harpists who love singing accompanied by the harp, like me, in this case the bardic harp can be a graceful accompaniment, even if without bass strings 😔.
There are also many people who want to approach the instrument and its sound and the bardic harp is an excellent starting point.
Sometimes it can happen that you stay right on the bardic without “upgrading”. Maybe if you play in a group, other instruments play the bass, and a bardic harp can give its color and phrasing for the best result.
So it really depends on how we want to experience this beautiful instrument 😀❤️
